SMS length, encoding & credits

SMS length depends on the alphabet/encoding used. Most messages use the GSM-7 alphabet (standard English letters, and numbers). Messages that include non-Latin characters (e.g., Arabic, Chinese) or emoji switch to Unicode (UCS-2), which reduces how many characters fit in a single SMS.

1 credit ≈ 1 SMS part

One SMS credit is generally equal to one part of sms up to 160 characters in purely English alphabet, without any special characters.

If customer is using non-english characters one credit is up to 80 characters.

If customer is using emoji and even more special characters one credit is up to 40 characters.

In mass sms sending screen Udio will estimated number of credits required.

Tip: Removing emoji or special symbols (when possible) can switch your message back to GSM-7 and reduce credits.
